FEED THE PIGGIES!

Jack's newest obsession is putting change in his piggy banks! He has five banks in his room and the second he sees change, he freaks out & knows exactly where it goes! A lot of times at night, before bed, we line them up and he fills them. I love when he does this because he gets this intense look of concentration on his face as he tries to push the money through the slot.

A few days ago, Jack was laying in bed with Scott & I and he spotted one of his banks in our room & immediately started pointing and screaming for one of us to bring it over to him. After dumping some change out, I thought it would be funny to put some pennies in between his piggy toes. He went crazy! He thought it was just the funniest thing & now, anytime he sees change, that is what he does! Even if he has his sleeper on and feet covered, he pulls and pulls on his pajamas to get them off so he can put the money in between his toes.

Scott & I were actually joking that when he is school and learning how to count with money, he will be sitting in the back of the classroom taking his shoes & socks off and doing this :)

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! (A few days late!)

The greatest gift I ever had
Came from God; I call him Dad!
~Author Unknown

Scott had a great Father's Day this year... in fact, Jack was so excited to celebrate with his Daddy that he woke up at 5:45!! It was quite a shock to both of us when we heard him chatting away on the monitor. Jack is a sleeper, a BIG sleeper! But the talking continued, turned into whining & could not be ignored any longer. So in he came, into Mommy & Daddy's new "big bed" and we had a great snuggle session to start off our morning. No complaints!! Jack also gave Scott his cards & presents. We got Scott the Nook from Barnes & Noble & he seemed very excited so we were happy! Then we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, packed up & headed to meet Grandpa at Space Farms Zoo & Museum in Sussex, New Jersey. Jack has not seen his Grandpa in over a month, so he was very excited when he got there!

Space Farms has the largest private collection of North American animals, in their natural surroundings in the United States. The Space Farm’s Museum contains more than 50,000 artifacts, including 50 antique cars, motorcycles, farm implements, early American tools, dolls, clocks, tractors, horse drawn sleighs, and Native American artifacts. Space Farms also has the second largest privately owned collection of antique firearms in the United States (All of that information stolen from their website to give you an idea of what it's all about)

Jack loved it! Grandpa bought corn & animal cookies to feed the deer, chickens, bear and monkeys! I was surprised at how totally fearless Jack was with feeding the animals, I was more nervous than he was... I pictured the deer chomping off his tiny little fingers. Which of course, did not happen. Halfway through the day, the skies just opened and POURED on us. This happened when we were at the furthest part of the zoo, so we took cover under some trees, which really didn't do much. By the time it stopped raining, we looked like we just jumped in a pool, soaked to the bone. Once it stopped, we spent a little more time exploring, playing on the slide & picking out souveniers at the gift shop.

Once we left the zoo, we headed back to Grandpa & Grandma's house in Pennsylvania and had a delicious steak dinner. Jack even went "swimming" in their hot tub (without the heat of course) and had some "cocktails" with the boys. Grandma made some amazing pink lemonade with fresh strawberries & Jack was crazy for it.

After a long, hot day, we headed home. Both Jack & Daddy passed out in the car while I chaffeured the boys home. Thank you Grandma & Grandpa for a great day. And of course, thank you Scott, for being the most amazing father to Jack! You work your butt off to make sure that Jack & I never want or need for anything & always come home with a smile on your face, no matter how exhausted you are! You make us laugh everyday and for that, WE LOVE YOU! I have no doubt, Jack will one day make a wonderful husband and father because he has you as his role model!

Unfortunately, I was not able to see my father aka Pop Pop on Father's Day, but we did see him Saturday night and Jack is fortunate enough to see him a few days a week. Pop Pop is always making him laugh, playing with him outside and finding the time during his CRAZY work days to run home & spend some time with him, even if it's just for a few minutes. Thank you Pop Pop! Happy Father's Day!

I COULD STARE AT THIS ALL DAY....

RAINY DAY FUN!

One rainy day last week, Jack and I headed out for an adventure at the mall....who knew it could be so much fun?!? We spent the afternoon just walking, exploring every last inch of the mall. We stopped for some rides, which Jack insisted on putting the quarters in himself, we rode up and down the elevators more times than I can count, ran around Krazy City and even went to the pet store. I didn't even know there was a pet store in the mall and when we stumbled upon it, we both freaked out! I asked a worker if we could pick a puppy out to play with and he said of course! I tried to figure out which one Jack seemed the most intrigued by, and we were both staring at the same one! There was the tiniest, most ADORABLE little Peekapoo sitting at the window just staring at Jack. She was only two months old and probably weighed 3 lbs. They brought us into a little room with a gate and handed the puppy over. We fell in love. Jack sat in the seat & held the little fur ball on his lap & laughed the whole time. I couldn't get over how good he was with her! It was so much fun! Once we left the pet store, Scott surprised Jack and was waiting for us at the merry-go-round & even took us for ice cream before we headed home! It was the perfect day!

MMMMM. Rainbow Frozen Yogurt from TCBY!

(We now know that this rainbow ice cream is a total disaster to eat! The next day, MiMa text me at work saying "Good Lord! What did you feed this child!" That text was followed by a picture message, with a picture of Jack's butt, completely STAINED BLUE!!! I almost peed my pants! As much as I would love to post the picture, I will just leave it up to your imagination :)

A STAR IS BORN!

I should say STARS! Today was a BIG day for Jack and his friends Caleigh & Charlotte. Caleigh is our close friends Matt & Kim's 3 month old daughter & Charlotte is Matt's neice. They filmed an episode of Mystery Diagnosis, which is a show featured on the Discovery Health Channel!! I have known Joanna, the producer, since Kindergarten! A few weeks ago, she posted the following on facebook....

Mystery Diagnosis is looking to cast babies for a few recreations... 1) Baby boy or girl with light hair, age 1-3 months 2) baby girl with light hair, age 6-9 months 3) little boy with light or dark hair, age 15-30 months. Please let me know if you, or someone you know, is interested!

And it just so happens that Caleigh, Charlotte & Jack fit the bill! And today, they filmed the episode at Matt & Kim's house! Caleigh & Charlotte portrayed the sick girl at different ages in her life and Jack played the big brother Milledge! I did not get to see Charlotte's scenes but I heard she was amazing & Caleigh was her usual "content, do whatever you want with me self!" Jack aka Milledge had a very small role but played it so so well! Here are the details from the show...

The story is about a little girl, Julia, who was born with bruises on her body and she continued to bruise until she was diagnosed at 6 months old with Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia - which is a blood clotting disorder.

The characters in our story are:
Mom: Helen Smith (played by Lesley's friend, Gean Froner)
Patient: Julia Smith (played by Caleigh and Charlotte or Amelia)
Julia's brother: Milledge (played by Jack)
Julia's grandma: TBD

Scenes for Caleigh:
1) Helen noticed bruises on Julia's foot and on her ear while she was bathing Julia
Props: baby bathtub

2) Helen padded the house to try and stop Julia from bruising (in the car seat, extra bumpers in the crib, and swaddled her with extra blankets)
Props: car seat, bumpers (we will buy this), baby blankets (we will buy this also)

Scenes for Caleigh and Jack:
1) Helen kept 15-month old Milledge away from Julia
Props: baby swing for Caleigh

2) Shot of Jack playing with toys near Caleigh (the doctors thought the bruises came from having a 15month old brother)
Props: toy for Jack

Scenes for Amelia/Charlotte:
1) We need general shots of Amelia or Charlotte playing on the ground with bruises on her legs/arms

2) Julia's grandma picks up baby and examines the bruises

Of course, the batteries in my camera died & I only have some pictures with my phone. The quality is not great, and for some reason they won't save when I rotate them, but here they are....

I was nervous all day that Jack would have some sort of crazy meltdown, because at this age, while it's rare, he does have them. He totally proved me wrong & did exactly what he needed to do. The cutest part was once he realized there was a lit candle on the tv stand, he stood from a distance and just kept blowing like he was putting it out. That was really the only distraction that he had. He did a great job & I am one proud mama!

As much fun as the day was, it was extremely sad to realize that this was someone's reality. We were told Julia is now 11 years old & will suffer from this condition for the rest of her life & will never be able to have children. Just another reminder to never take anything for granted & be thankful for our beautiful healthy babies!

The episode will air sometime towards the end of summer/early fall and I will post the date when know. Of course, there will be a "viewing party" for our famous little munchkins!

Jack's 1st Movie!

Lately, Jack has been OBSESSED with Shrek. He knows where we keep the DVD so when he wakes up, he will actually go to the rack and hand me to the DVD! Donkey makes him laugh like crazy and he dances to the soundtrack non-stop! Since there is a new Shrek out, I figured it was the perfect movie to test out on him. The movie started at 12:10 so we got there a little late figuring we didn't need to sit through the previews. Had Jack not slept until 10 this morning, we would have gone to an earlier movie, which probably would have been less crowded. Jack did great the whole time, the movie is 1.5 hours & he lasted an hour of it. He sat on our laps most of the time, eating his fruit crisps & drinking his juice. About 50 minutes into the movie, he spotted the stairs with the little lights and it was all over. All he wanted to do was walk up and down and up and down. So we decided it was best to leave because there was no way we were getting him back to the seat. Overall, I was totally shocked at how long he sat and watched the movie and I do hope to one day see the ending :)

TWO MONTHS WORTH OF FUN!!!

Aside from my post announcing beautiful baby Cate's birth, I have not posted since the beginning of April!!! I am taking full advantage of some free time I have this week & making up for lost time :) So, here's what the little man has been up to....

WARNING: It's extremely long & I did not spell check!
DADDY'S BIGGEST FAN!
We were able to catch a couple of Scott's baseball games this season! Jack loved the freedom of just running around and the best part was playing on the field after!

DONATE LIFE!
We did the Donate Life walk with our friend Brian this year at Rockland Lake. We walked in memory of Billy Kayser, the younger brother of one of our friends who was killed in a car accident at 16. Despite it being a complete tragedy for the Kayser family, they made the amazing choice to donate his organs and he saved the lives of SIX people! Mrs. Kayser spoke, as well as other people, who actually received organs. It was a great morning, and we were all reminded of precious life is!

BEAR MOUNTAIN!
Scott & I took Jack to Bear Mountain one Sunday with the hopes of going to the zoo. Of course, we did absolutely no research and never do anything on time, so when we got there, the zoo was closed. We still had a great afternoon at the park though. We even brought a kite to fly, but Scott & I had NO CLUE what we were doing & the kite never made it 6 inches off the floor. Jack watched as Scott & I attempted to fly it. "What the hell are you doing?" was written all over his face! It was hysterical.

This is the look he was giving Scott while he was trying to figure out the kite.

MORE BASEBALL FUN!

OUTDOOR WORLD!
Grandma & Grandpa got us tickets to Outdoor World in Pennsylvania! We were originally supposed to go to Space Farms, unfortunately the weather was terrible. The day was great & Jack experienced his first indoor water park! He is a total water baby & LOVED the lazy river! It was good practice for our trip to Sesame Place in July!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
We had a very nice, low key celebration because our little man had been sick (see next post). We wanted to stay home and keep Jack in his own surroundings since he was not feeling well so everyone came to us! My day started though, with Jack waking me up with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and lots of kisses! Then we headed out to breakfast, which did not go well at all. Jack had his first public meltdown, so we ended up getting our breakfast to go. It was our fault for taking him out and expecting him to sit in a high chair when he had been sick. Breakfast tasted just as good at home! Later on, Scott & my father cooked the most delicious BBQ and we ate, ate and ate some more! My parents, Nana, two brothers and mother-in-law were there to celebrate & Jack had so much fun with his family :)

SICK ISLAND!
In the middle of all this fun, Jack has been sick on and off. It's actually been more on than off, which has been extremely frustrating for us all. I will try to keep it as short as possible. Basically, Jack is the King of Fevers. He is constantly getting them, and they do not go away for days at a time. However, towards the end of April, Jack got a fever and it just would not go away. We would give him Tylenol, Motrin, luke warm baths, etc. and he just could not kick it. 12 days and 3 trips to the pediatrician later, Scott & I packed up and took Jack to PM Pediatrics to ask for bloodwork. We had been recording every temperature and every morsel of food he had eaten, just in case they needed to know. We went prepared. The same nurse practictioner was working, who had seen him a week later, and I was relieved. She was amazing with him, kept him so calm and did a great job of distracting him from what she was doing. They agreed bloodwork needed to be done, as well as a chest x ray. Jack was such a champ. He cried when they put the needle in, but I think he seemed more terrified at all of the strange faces above him while Scott & I held him down. I of course cried, but did a good job of keeping as much in as possible. I may be more traumatized by that night than he was! The chest x-ray was quick, but still scared him, as they had to turn the lights off. But Scott was able to go in with him & hold his hand. I watched through the window, trying not to cry again. About twenty minutes later, the results were ready and they said everything looked normal! THANK GOD! They did say however, that he had some high levels, indicating a virus and bacteria that he was fighting, which was most likely causing the fevers. I was happy with that answer, not happy that he was sick, but thrilled that it was nothing more serious. Now at least, we had some sort of answer and we went home relieved. It's still frustrating though, because right now, Jack is on day two of another fever. It seems to be every 2-3 weeks, he gets them. The doctor says it is who he is. He is just prone to getting them. Hopefully that stops as he gets older. But if this is the worst we will ever have to deal with, I am NOT complaining!

Here are some pictures I took of our poor peanut when he was sick....

I took this picture after our 1st trip to PM Pediatrics. He had a 103.8 fever, I had left work to bring him to the doctor, and as I was unbuckling the straps on the carseat, he threw up EVERYWHERE! I'm talking projectile vommit, all over himself, my car & my scrubs. We both walked into the doctor's office covered and reaking of puke. I was mortified that I had no change of clothes for him! So when we were ready to leave I asked them for anything, anything at all I could cover his seat with for the ride home. They were nice enough to give me a big sterile drape and one of those ridiculously small bed pans should he throw up again. We both gagged the whole way home!
Here is "Sick Island." I would put all the cushions on the floor for him and cover it with blankets & we would snuggle all day while we watched Nick Jr. I would tell him he had his own special island to get better on!

Enjoying a delicious Pedialyte ice pop from MiMa!

This is when we knew he didn't feel well. He would get up from his nap, come downstairs and just lay on his favorite cushion and watch tv.

Brave boy waiting for test results at the doctor's office :(

Picture MiMa sent me at work one day of Jack snuggling on her shoulder while she rocked him.

LUCKY CHARMS!
Jack loves cereal. He loves all cereal, however, his absolute favorite is definitely Lucky Charms. Obviously it's a sugar cereal, so it's more of a special treat, but when he gets it, he goes crazy. One night while putting the groceries away, Jack spotted the magically delicious red box on the counter. He literally stood on his tippy toes, knocked the box onto the floor and carried it over to his little table we have in the kitchen. He then brought the box into the living room, sat up on his favorite couch cushion & went fishing in the box for marshmallows! Of course, that resulted in the entire box spilling all over my couch. And the little monster just said "Uh Oh!" and continued to eat the cereal with a huge smile on his face! I very well could have stopped him before this whole thing happened, but I was having too much fun watching him feel like he had just done all of this without me knowing!

ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING!
MiMa has been in North Carolina for over two weeks now, spending quality time with her new grandaughter Cate & big brother Liam! Her trip was originally only for a long weekend with Pop Pop, however, since I am off this week, she asked if I could find babysitting coverage for Jack for the week in between. We are fortunate enough to have such great friends and family, that this was not an issue at all. Nanny took off one day, Daria helped out another & Joe & Kim handled the other three days! I was more nervous than I thought, leaving him with Joe & Kim. Not because I thought they couldn't handle it, but because Jack has become quite a mommy's boy! He knows when I'm leaving for work and he gets a little clingy. So I was expecting him to be aprehensive in new surroundings for such long days. He proved me totally wrong! At Joe's house, he spent the day running around with two crazy dogs, swimming in the pool & even taking good naps in his pack & play, which he never ever uses! When it was time to leave, he did not want to go! At Kim's house, he played with baby Caleigh & took even longer naps there! It was especially cute because Jack slept in the pack & play next to Caleighs crib! He adjusted to the changes in his schedule perfectly & my hourly texts to check up on him gradually turned in to just one or two a day! Pop Pop even took the day off from his crazy schedule to watch him. They picked up Great Nana, rode the merry go round, had smoothies & watched Miracle!
Having to pack everything for him the night before gave me a whole new appreciation for having my mother home to watch him! Normally, I get up, get ready for work, wake Jack up, throw him in the car & drop him off at my moms. She has everything at her house, so I never have to worry about a thing! Afer just one week of packing diaper bags, food and everything else that was needed, we are READY for MiMa to be home! Jack definitely misses his Bob!

CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF MANHATTAN!
Since I am off this week, I have been researching fun things to do with Jack around the area. The Children's Museum of Manhattan always pops up online, so there was no better time than today to check it out. It took us no time at all to get to and there was a parking garage directly across the street. The museum is four floors of pure fun for kids of any age! We got there around lunch time and it was not too crowded so Jack was able to explore everything without there being a million other kids intimidating him! He jumped right into to everything and had a smile from ear to ear the entire time! He also fell in love with riding the elevator. Each time we went on, it was just the two of us, so he even got to push the buttons himself. As soon as the doors would close, he would grab my hand (which is rare) and smile as we moved up or down. It made my heart melt! I would love to go back with Scott next time so he can share in the fun!
